Comparison of Leopard spots, left, to Jaguar spots, right. Many people get the jaguar and leopard confused. Besides the fact that Jaguars live exclusively in South America and leopards live in Africa and Asia, their physical appearance differs too. The jaguar is stockier and taller than the leopard, and its rosettes are larger. Their face is broader and longer than the leopard's as well.

(Panthera leoThe lion's former range included not only all of Africa but extended farther east and northward. They occured as far north as Greece, and eastward through the Middle East to India. They became extinct in eastern Europe around AD 100, but their population remained steady throughout the rest of their range until the mid 19th century, when the invention and widespread use of firearms led to their extirpation throughout much of their range.

Mandrill Monkey

Like others species of baboon, mandrills are sociable animals, living in groups which may number from fifteen to 200 members. Each group contains at least one adult male, five or more adult females, and their young. Some males live alone, which indicates the likelihood of rivalry between adult males for the leadership of the groups.

(Oreamnos americanus)

The Mountain Goat is not a true goat, but belongs to a group known as goat-antelopes, which includes the Chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) of Europe and Asia Minor. Whereas the horns of true goats sweep up and back, and are transversely ridged or tightly spiraled like a corkscrew, the Mountain Goat’s horns curve back only slightly and are nearly smooth. Its "beard" is not the true chin beard of male goats, but an extension of a throat mane.

American Pika Ochotona princeps

The American Pika feeds on many species of green plants, eating some on the spot and, in late summer, when foraging may continue into evening, scurrying away with cuttings to boulders near its home. It spreads them to dry in the sun, curing its "hay" as a farmer does; haystacks are not high but may contain as much as a bushel of vegetation, primarily grasses and sedges, and also including fireweed, stonecrop, sweetgrass, and thistles.

 Polar Bear
(Ursus maritimus)

Polar bears live in the arctic circle in Greenland, Canada, and adjacent ice sheets. They live mostly on the shorelines. They do not venture to far north as the permanent pack ice is too thick for the seals to break through, so the bears will not have any food.
